Zak Penn To Bring Us THE ARGONAUTS!
Zak Penn (yes, that is he to your left) has been hired to write and produce a new take on The Argonauts, as in “Jason And The”. This time looking at the crew who accompanied the Greek hero Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece. Penn’s story, according to EmpireOnline, will be an “original take” on the legend.
But as is discussed in their article on this subject, is it just over-kill? I know all about the tendency to have “double-trouble” on a high concept notion (i.e. competing asteroid or volcano movies) but on top of this you’ve also got:
Louis Leterrier working on a remake of Clash of the Titans; Warners doing a 300 sequel (tell me how that would work please?); Relativity Media is producing War of Gods about Theseus; Brett Ratner’s mulling over doing God of War (which many could say is the dyslexic’s remake of Relativity Media’s War of Gods); and THREE, that we know of presently, Hercules projects - the most prominent of which is Peter Berg’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Then there is DreamWorks who are making a different film to Mr Penn but also called The Argonauts, about modern treasure-hunters thrown back through time when they find the original Argo.
Gentleman, put on your soft cotten just-covering-the-buttocks togas, pick up your swords and shields and let the battle commence!
