Writer Talks About GEARS OF WAR: The Movie

Gears Of War

As one videogame to movie adaption falters another rises from the ashes, phoenix like….

Stuart Beattie, writer of movies like Collateral, 30 Days of Night, Pirates of the Caribbean and many more, has been hired to write the script for the movie adaption of Gears of War, yet another Xbox 360 shooter that see’s a group of soldiers from Delta Squad fighting to save the human inhabitants of the planet Sera from a “relentless subterranean enemy” called the Locust Horde, and he spoke a little to Game Pro about how the movie would (should?) look mentioning that it would need to be filmed like 300 was:

“There’s no way to build that world any other way, really,” said Beattie. “That’s a huge world. It’s a planet and it’s a bubble and it’s a building. It’s an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely.”

Now, I have never played the game so I really cannot comment on the game itself but the movie “plot” (if you can call it that) brings to mind Starship Troopers. Hmmmm, yeah ok, I could be down for this, if it’s half as entertaining as Troopers.
