William Hurt On The IRON MAN/INCREDIBLE HULK Crossover

It’s been well known for a while now that when The Incredible Hulk/Iron Man movies are released there is going to be a crossover between the two, possibly paving the way for an Avengers movie some time in the future (which is what I think they should be planning for the now aborted Justice League), which is something I really love the idea of as it makes the universe that these characters exist in feel that much more “real”, as they’re not just the only hero in existence. And now William Hurt has spoken to MTV about the scene he has filmed for The Incredible Hulk with Tony Stark/Iron Man as played by Robert Downy Jr:

”I don’t know how it’ll work,” Hurt admitted, saying it was a thrill to appear as General Thaddeus Ross during Downey’s scene. “I know it’s weird [to work with a character from another movie], and to know it’s a device. We did something; I don’t know what that’s going to be like [to watch].”

OK, so it’s not much but it is confirmation that the crossover is taking place, and there’s meant to be more as Nick Fury, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D in the Marvel Universe, played by Samuel L Jackson, is meant to be cropping up in both movies.

Hurt also went on to talk about one particular scene that he cannot wait to see on the big screen. Now, it’s slightly spoilerific so, if you want to know, then highlight the space between here:

“Liv Tyler, I play her father, General Ross,” he explained. “There’s a scene, and during that scene there are a number of things happening. [Hulk] has beaten Abomination, and then there’s a crowd that gathers around, and they realize that he’s beaten Abomination. That Abomination was the one who was killing for just the joy of killing; Hulk is not the one.

“It’s the moment of turn,” Hurt added, “when society’s relationship with Hulk stops being so stupid.”

And here!

I for one cannot wait for these two movies. Iron Man looks like it will be a very cool movie, and as much as I enjoyed Ang Lee’s Hulk there were things that I would have liked to have been done differently and I’m hoping that Edward Norton’s take on the role are going to rectify them in Incredible Hulk. And the prospect of these movies taking place in the same “universe” and maybe leading on to an Avengers movie, is something I really do like. It’s just a shame that Spider-Man and Fantastic Four are owned by different studios as it would have been nice (in my opinion) for them all to be connected in some way – yes I would like to have had a wide shot in Fantastic Four with Spider-Man swinging past the window of the Baxter Building, or have Peter Parker watching a news report about the FF – what can I say? I’m an unashamed comic book fan and I would love them all to be in the same movie “universe”. I guess I’ll just have to console myself with Iron Man/The Incredible Hulk being part of a bigger world for now.

Iron Man hits the theatres at the end of April/beginning of May (depending on where you live) and The Incredible Hulk smashes it up from the 12th of June.
