VENOM Movie Gets Director/Writer And A New Direction?
According to Variety writer Mike Fleming, the standalone Venom movie being made by Columbia Pictures is close to securing a writer/director, none other than Gary Ross, who was brought in to re-write the screenplay for the forthcoming Spider-Man 4.
The writer/director responsible for Pleasantville and Seabiscuit is rumoured to be moving onto Venom once he has finished his work on Spider-Man 4.
It’s also rumoured that the Venom movie will be a fresh start for the character, where he will be “an anti-hero who becomes a defender of the innocent.” rather than the villain we saw in Spider-Man 3 and, seemingly, taking it’s cues from the 90′s Venom comic books when the character was a “lethal protector” of the innocent.
No news on casting or if Topher Grace will be reprising the role of Eddie Brock, but at the very least I hope we get a total redesign of the costume he wore in Spider-Man 3!
