TROPIC THUNDER trailer brings the funny(and concerns)!
Ha! It’s been a while since most folks have found Ben Stiller to be relevant. I enjoyed The Heartbreak Kid, but when I saw it on DVD at Blockbuster, I didn’t even bother getting it. That being said, this trailer makes me laugh and cringe simultaneously. The premise (a bunch of actors shooting a war movie who actually get thrown into a real war by accident) is potential for tons of laughs, but the whole “Robert Downey Jr. in blackface” thing does NOT make me laugh. It’s not funny to paint up a white person in blackface, at least to me. It’s got the potential to be extremely offensive and hurt a lot of people who are sensitive to that kind of thing. I can practically hear the NAACP tuning up the band for a protest to this movie. I might be overreacting, but I didn’t laugh when I saw him. I cringed. You watch the trailer and make your own call!

You are overreacting, Downey is gonna steal the movie.
I think there is a bit of an overreaction. Stiller isn’t as out-there as he used to be and he’s far too safe these days. Even the Farrelly Bros commented on the lack of daring that he has adopted between There’s Something About Mary and Heartbreak Kid. The guy is slowly turning into a replacement for Eddie Murphy in the naff studio family flick. He most definitely will go to the line with Downey’s role but i don’t think he’d dare cross it. Cruise is in this too. He’d not attach himself to racism in cinema.
