Trailer Blowout!
Thought I’d share some trailers with you. You need something to watch after all!
The Forbidden Kingdom
This is the movie teaming Jet Li with Jackie Chan with fight choreography by Yuen Wo Ping (who I’m sure you know was responsible for the fight choreography in The Matrix movies and both Kill Bill’s). Here’s the synopsis (courtesy of FirstShowing.net):
In Forbidden Kingdom, American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China.
There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King – imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus frees himself.
The trailer, which you can see below, looks amazing and this looks like it could be a great movie for Kung-Fu fans everywhere!
Next we have Fools Gold, a new comedy action-adventure movie that, when reading the synopsis, put me in mind of Harrison Ford’s Six Days, Seven Nights, for some reason! Here’s the synopsis (courtesy of the IMDB):
Fools Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as Ben Finn Finnegan, a good-natured, surf bum-turned-treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queens Dowry — 40 chests of exotic treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) and his more-rusty-than-trusty salvage boat, Booty Calls. Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland), Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasures whereabouts. Certain that his luck will change with the newfound information, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigels yacht and, using his good-natured charm, convinces the tycoon and his Blackberry-wielding, celebutante daughter, Gemma (Alexis Dziena), to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure. Against Tess better judgment, the search rekindles her loveof discovery. But they are not the only ones after the treasure. Finns mentor-turned-nemesis Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone) has also set out to claim the prize.
Yeah yeah, blah blah. But then I watched the trailer (which, again, you can see below) and I changed my mind somewhat. While it does look quite generic in places this does look like it could be a funny and entertaining little popcorn flick. And it might fill the gap a little until Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull arrives next year.
The Oxford Murders
This is the new movie starring John Hurt and Elijah Wood as an Oxford College professor and student who get embroiled in trying to solve a series of murders in Oxford. Y’see, Hurt’s character has written a book about serial killers and Wood is his most promising student. It’s adapted from the book by Guillermo Martinez by director Álex de la Iglesia and it looks pretty damn good. I say “looks” because the trailer is in Spanish (as the movie is going to be first released in Spain on the 18th of January) and I can’t speak a word of it! Still, it does look very interesting and I can’t wait to see an English language version of the trailer.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes
And finally we have The Poughkeepsie Tapes.
Sorry, you’re going to have to visit BloodyDisgusting for this one. Clickety click. Now, I hadn’t even heard of this one before but after watching the trailer I really want to see it! I love slasher movies and this mockumentary about a supposed serial killer, the Waterstreet Butcher, who terrorised upstate New York for ten years from the 90′s looks like it could be a pretty disturbing flick. The premise is that the Waterstreet Butcher had been getting away with his killings until he made one little slip and SWAT came calling. Unfortunately the killer had already gone but the police did find hundreds of video tapes that he had made cataloguing his killing spree in meticulous detail. The Poughkeepsie Tapes tells the tale of the killer with interviews with police, FBI and friends and family of the victims, interspersed with extended clips from the killers video library. It took the Tribeca Film Festival by storm this year, and I think this could well be one to watch for horror movie lovers.

Fool’s Gold?
SAHARA 2? Without the law-suits? Kate Hudson annoys me! And that was before she drove Owen Wilson to suicide by dating the guy who got a movie deal based off of a co-starring role in TV’s Punk’d! (You gotta love the tabloids!)
NB:
I’d just like to correct the above post on the advice of my lawyers:
“… Kate Hudson drove him to ‘attempt’ suicide, not actually commit suicide…”
Thank you!
What? I’m not legally allowed to suggest that either?
Seriously – what the **** do I care? I was only trying to be flippant!
:p
