The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Remake Acquires Its Freddy Krueger! Really?!?
I’m not entirely sure why this hasn’t popped up all over the net - most probably because it is possibly not true, even though the IMDB are reporting it as “fact so… I’ll hand it over to the them:
Billy Bob Thornton will star as Freddy Krueger in a new Nightmare On Elm Street movie.
The 53-year-old actor will take on the chilling role in a remake of the 1984 original.
Robert Englund, who played the part in eight films, revealed that Thornton will star in the horror films and is an “excellent choice” for the role.
He adds, “A big budget should mean the film will look a lot better than some of the old movies.”
I think Thornton could do wonders with this role if I’m honest but… this has franchise marked all over it and Thornton is notoriously “anti-franchise” (a mooted series of Bad Santa and Bandits movies fell apart specifically because of Thornton’s allergic reaction to doing sequels) so I’m not entirely certain this is “fact”.
However, Thornton has admitted that he likes to “dip into Jerry Bruckheimer’s type of world” every now and again in order to “fluff up his bank account in order to concentrate on the roles that matter in lower budget movies” so, who knows?
What do you think of Billy Bob Thornton as Freddy Krueger?
NB: Moriarty, over at AICN, has denounced this news (in between publicly also denouncing Lucasfilm and any support of them from now on in one review and championing the less resourced online film critics out there (like me) in another, two moves that have made me come to pass huge respect his way) which you can read here
