THE DARK KNIGHT Is A Record Breaker!
After only five days on US theatrical release The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s follow up to Batman Begins, is smashing all sorts of box office records! Not content with smashing the record for opening weekend, which was previously held by Spider-Man 3 at $151.1 million, by taking $158.4 million over the weekend, it has also taken the record for an IMAX opening with around $6.3 million over the weekend, the record for a midnight opening with $18.5 million, the record for a single day gross with $67.2 million on Friday, the record for a Sunday gross with $43.6 million and the record for a non-holiday Monday gross $24.5 million.
But that’s not all! Now, after only five days on release in the USA, it has taken the record for the fastest movie to break $200 million by taking $203.8 million in five days, eclipsing the previous record held by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest of earning $214,563,858 in eight days (and just for the sake of it, The Dark Knight has taken $222,150,806 in it’s six days on release!), which means it already qualifies for the biggest opening week ever with a day to go!
And thats only for the USA. With The Dark Knight opening in the UK and other territories this week, I think we can assume that this trend for record breaking is going to continue for the worldwide grosses as well.
And if you were wondering, The Dark Knight has not only already taken more in six days than it cost to make the movie (with a production budget of $185 million) but has also already eclipsed the entire domestic run of Batman Begins, which only took $205 million!
I think you could say that The Dark Knight has certainly been successful!

Deserves every penny. Great flick.
It just makes me so angry and sad that Heath can’t bask in all this glory. Damn shame.
