THE COTTAGE: Trailer Online

The Cottage Poster

Back when I was writing on Filmrot, before I made the move to start my own site, I reviewed a little British movie called London To Brighton which really was a great movie. Unfortunately I cannot link to the review anymore but trust me, if you get the chance, check it out.

Why have I brought this up? Simple. The director of London To Brighton, Paul Andrew Williams, has been working on another movie, this time moving from gang-land to horror and starring Andy Serkis, and I have just been sent links to the trailer, which you can check out below in your choice of formats but first here’s the “official synopsis”:

In the dead of night, a car arrives at a secluded country cottage. Bickering constantly, brothers David (Andy Serkis) and Peter (Reece Shearsmith) climb out to inspect the hideaway. The pair have set aside their differences for a quick moneymaking scheme – a kidnapping. Tracey (Jennifer Ellison), bound, gagged and unconscious, is locked in the trunk of the car. Her black sheep step-brother Andrew (Steven O’Donnell) is also in on the scheme. The kidnapping however goes completely wrong with Tracey turning the tables on her captors and escaping with Peter as a hostage. David and Andrew follow them into the woods but they soon discover something far more terrifying is lurking in the darkness. The stage is set for a grotesquely comic battle for survival when our characters encounter a maniacal Farmer. Who will survive and what will be left of them?

That sounds a bit nuts. And the trailer reinforces that! Check it out below:

Watching the trailer it looks like this movie is going to follow in the tradition of recent British horrors like Shaun of the Dead and Severance. And that’s not a bad thing! If it is as enjoyable as either of those two movies then we’re in for a treat and, judging by Williams’ last effort he is a capable director, and a British take on Texas Chainsaw Massacre can only be a good thing! I hope.

Yeah, I have hope that this will turn out to be as funny and enjoyable as the trailer looks.

The Cottage is released in UK cinemas on March 21st 2008 March 14th 2008 (sorry people who live outside the UK there isn’t any other release dates yet – and judging by movies like Severance it will probably be out on Region 2 DVD before it even makes it to your country).

Best use of music in a trailer. I’m really looking forward to seeing this, though it will most likely be a long wait.
