The BFI/Times London Film Festival 2007 Announces It’s Line-Up!
Bloody Hell… if you’re living or existing in or around London, here in the UK, between October 17 to November 1 then you have got – and I mean GOT – to get yourself along to The BFI/Times London Film Festival this year as the line-up has been announced and, boy oh boy, is it a whopper?!?
It’s already public knowledge that David Cronenberg’s much-hyped Eastern Promises will be opening the festival and Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited will be closing it but, as fantastic a prospect as both of those movies are, it’s the proverbial “meat” between that audacious sandwich that counts huh?:
Tom Cruise sets out to prove that he is not a cradle-robbing mad-man with a penchant for a crazy made-up cult masquerading as a “religion” by starring alongside Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in Lions For Lambs, directed by Redford himself!
Halle Berry tries valiantly to prove that the Oscar she was awarded actually means something by starring with Benicio Del Toro in Things We Lost in the Fire.
Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck come together for the long-awaited, much-delayed, already hugely acclaimed The Assassination of Jesse James.
Ellen Page, Jennifer Garner, Michael Cera and the always brilliant Jason Batemen star in the much-lauded Juno, from Jason Reitman – son of Ivan and director of the hugely under-rated Thank You For Smoking.
You wait two decades for Jerry Seinfeld to branch out and make a movie and he hands you an animated one where, rumour has it, he’s put the minimal effort in possible! Those teaser trailers still make Bee Movie an intriguing prospect!
Sean Penn’s Into The Wild, starring Emile Hirsch and a HUGE roster of respected character actor talent, gets it’s UK debut in the story of a guy who takes himself ‘off the grid’ to travel America.
Mark Ruffalo and Joaquin Phoenix star in Reservation Road, the story of the aftermath of a tragic accident that a friend of mine in the states has seen and says is “friggin’ awesome”.
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Don Cheadle star in Talk To Me , which I’ve seen on a “pirate DVD” and thoroughly enjoyed!
Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Ben Whishaw and Christian Bale, all playing Bob Dylan, in Todd Haynes intriguing I’m Not There.
Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution with Tony Leung is a film you cannot have been on the internet and not heard about recently so it’s going to be interesting to see if that is worth all the attention it’s getting.
Michael Moore’s documentary about the American Health Care System, Sicko, is taking it’s British bow amidst rumours that – compared to Bowling For Columbine / Farrenheit 9-11, this is “not as good”.
Robert Rodriguez’ Planet Terror which I’ve seen and thought was actually no where near as good as it could have been and was actually pretty deserving of it’s “failure” status!
Christian Bale in Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn which I’ve seen and friggin’ loved a great deal!
Disney’s Enchanted, whose trailer I mocked on Wyverex and I’s old stomping ground and actually received pretty strong hate mail about from like 14 year old girls or something so I’m learning my lesson and saying ZIP!
And finally, John Cusack in the enormously acclaimed drama Grace Is Gone, that the Hollywood rumour mill is suggesting could snag him the Oscar this year!
So there’s a fuckload of great titles there huh? Obviously I’m a Newcastle Boy and my funds are low so I’m not going to be able to get a sneak peek on anything early that I haven’t already but if any of you lot are lucky enough to attend and see any flicks on offer to you then by all means drop us a line with a “Guest Review” huh?
