Stallone Digs Further Into His Personal Archive For… CLIFFHANGER 2!!!

Sigh! As much of a soft-spot as I have for Cliffhanger as a piece of glorious, sub-Die Hard pure escapist fun, to hear the news – via GMTV here in the UK yesterday – that he’s following Rocky 6 (much loved by me!) and Rambo 4 (seeing it tomorrow, review pending!) with Cliffhanger 2: The Dam just makes me seriously shake my head in bewilderment.

The guy has got an Edgar Allan Poe biopic, Poe, with Robert Downey Jnr committed to star on the horizon AND a self-penned script called Notorious that deals with the LAPD corruption surrounding the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G (a script that James Ellroy himself allegedly said was one of the best crime/police procedural screenplays he’s ever read – and he wrote LA Confidential!) and he puts both on the backburner in order to rework a stale Steven E. DeSouza screenplay from 1996? Come on Stallone!

For those unfamiliar with the conceit, Cliffhanger 2: The Dam (the script for which circulated the internet back in the late 90s!) sees a terrorist attack on a dam that will see the flooding of the town that resides beneath it. Stallone’s Gabe Walker returns to save the day. And that’s essentially it storywise!

… Which is worrying because the hugely under-rated Christian Slater/Morgan Freeman B-movie, Hard Rain, already accomplished much of where Stallone could go with this flick. Michael Rooker and Janine Turner’s careers are vacant enough to jump back on board but, really, do we NEED this?

Colour me sceptical!

I want a sequel to Over the Top.

As for the the Poe movie, after seeing the Masters of Horror episode “The Black Cat”, I really only see Jeffery Combs playing Poe.

Oh, and Rooker is the ****ing man.

Well I just hope he does another Judge Dredd film. And yes I am taking the piss.

If they can get Diane Lane again it might not be that bad…

But it probably wouldn’t be that great either!

I was going to say that Diane Lane is above this, but she did do Untraceable and Jumper, so who the hell knows!

Cliffhanger was a good film, as was Hard Rain (Loved them both!)..

But Cliffhanger combined with Hard Rain = Cliffhanger 2:The Dam…. hmmm… not sure…

Are we to see Stallone hanging from the top of the Dam (of course with either a deadly drop or a fall into turbine) with the bad guy standing on his hands?

It could be interesting…. and there will be worse films released … (probably)
