**UPDATED** SHERLOCK HOLMES Bullshit Round-Up!

UPDATED: EmpireOnline pulled Guy Ritchie aside at the premiere of RocknRolla and he fessed up some straight-from-the-horses-mouth style concrete details, alongside Mr Downey’s wife, Susan, who is also a producer on the movie. Russell Crowe is NOT Watson. (Did anyone seriously think he was?) and… well… read the whole report right here!

Take one article from the ever reliable tabloid newspaper The Sun, here in the UK, mix it through the integrity filters of Teletext UK and then let it land in the gossip column over at IMDB. What do you get? An almost guaranteed slice of bullshit:

Russell Crowe is set to play Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick Dr Watson in Guy Ritchie’s new film.

The Gladiator star is lined up to star opposite Robert Downey Jr as the legendary fictional sleuth’s confidante and storyteller in the forthcoming flick.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, “Russell wants the part, Guy wants Russell. All they’ve got left to do is dot the i’s and cross the t’s.”

And on a separate-but-same note, Robert Downey Jnr has been talking about the upcoming production - and the IMDB mixed it up with The Sun once again to get the “scoop”:

Fictional super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes will be turned into a “bad-ass” martial arts expert in Guy Ritchie’s hard-hitting new film.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary crimefighter was famous for his pipe-puffing, laidback approach to solving mysteries in the series of novels.

But Ritchie’s forthcoming flick is rumoured to make the character - played by Robert Downey Jr. - a lot more hands-on.

The actor tells British newspaper The Sun, “I’ve got to spend some time with Guy and I love his take on it. We’re both martial arts enthusiasts and in the original stories of Sherlock Holmes, he’s kind of a bad-ass and a bare-knuckle boxer and studies the rare, fictional martial art of baritsu.

“If you look baritsu up, they can’t even really tell you what it is, so it gives us a lot of leeway.”

And the Chaplin star insists the Holmes mysteries are still relevant to today’s audiences, adding: “It’s a period piece where you don’t modernise it, you just realise how modern it was.”

Take from this what you will. I’m not buying too much of this at the moment just because of who the sources are!

I’m seeing Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla this week which might get me a little more stoked about this upcoming project but Revolver and Swept Away burnt me pretty badily. In the meantime, I’m more interested in seeing what the Apatow clan do with their Sacha Baron Cohen/Will Ferrell comedic concept of the Sherlock Holmes legend!

You?

Will Ferrell needs to go into a cave and come out when he’s funny again.

STEP BROTHERS was very funny! My review is coming any day now!

That line reading of “Shhh, you’ll wake the neighbours” whilst he tries to bury Reilly?

    FUNNY!!!

Boats and Hos was the highlight for me.

    Everything else, garbage.

You really didn’t like STEP BROTHERS?

Not on par with ANCHORMAN, but still a very solid comedy to me.

(Damnit, I’m just quoting my ****ing review now. I must get round to pressing “publish” on my review!)

    lol

My brain is shot to hell right now, seriously. I endured the unendurable(is that even a word?). I watched Babylon AD. The whole thing. Expect that review sometime this weekend. Maybe tomorrow if I can find time between classes.

Step Brothers wasn’t terrible, but just wasn’t that funny to me.

    Except Boats and Hos.
