Sean Astin Talks Up GOONIES 2!
I love Goonies. It is one of my all time favourite movies. And the thought of a sequel makes me all happy inside – if done right that is! And in a recent interview with MovieWeb Sean Astin reveals that he feels the same about returning to the role of Mikey.
He told MovieWeb:
“…of course I’d do it if it was right, if the character was good, if the story was right or whatever. I’m totally up for it. It’s more than a lock that it’ll get done. Who knows when? There’s an animated thing that I’ve been hearing a lot about. I would think that based on how much they’re promoting the DVD, not just promoting it but by how many DVDs they’re selling, they’re kind of softening up the ground for their animated show that I’ve heard about. Yeah, so stay tuned…”
A Goonies animated show? OK, I can get behind that I guess but I would dearly love to see a movie where the Goonies have all grown up and have to get back together, maybe to save their own kids from the return of the Frattelli’s? Oh yeah..
Now, interestingly Astin also said this about his own ideas for a Goonies 2, when MovieWeb asked if he had any ideas for it:
Yeah, lots of ideas. (Laughs) I do I have a whole version of the movie but nobody’s wanted to let me tell it to them. Nobody in a position of authority has wanted me to tell it to them so it will probably die with me. (Laughs).
Mr Astin? I’m a big fan. You rocked in Goonies and in Lord of the Rings so I would be more than happy to have a look at your version of the movie if you would like to send it to me.

M’eh! No GOONIES 2 please! I really couldn’t stand the brilliance of one of my Top Twenty all time favourite films being ****ed with like that! Seriously, Wyv, I admire your enthusiasm but Christ I wouldn’t want to see this!
