Rant And Rave! Rave And Rant! Brett Ratner Has Possibly Another Job Lined Up!
This is always what kinda embarrasses me about being a “movie geek”. Our ‘community’ latches on to some guy who they perceive as a ‘talentless moron’ who has ‘butchered’ many a movie and they chase him to the point of his own suicide or something like that. Case in point with Brett Ratner.
Every fucking project this guy gets announced for or suggested for, the online community react as if a paedophile has moved into the neighbourhood, come over to your house to ask to borrow a cup of sugar and then stood at your front door scratching his nuts whilst muttering “So… do you have any kids?”
Let’s get some perspective here peeps. And this is from the guy that was as concerned as you were when Ratner was circling the Escape From New York remake: Ratner is a ‘hack’ no doubt about it. His movies are safe, visionless, empty-headed affairs. But does he REALLY pain you any more then a Jon Avnet or a Bruce Beresford or a Jon Turtletaub? Faceless, indistinctive directors of that ilk? Come on…
… Just admit it, the AICN style with-hunt/chase/persecution thing is just something you find ‘fun’ right? You can’t really tell me that the likes of Red Dragon and X-Men: The Last Stand were SOOOOO offensive they destroyed your delicate sensibilities?
Why am I banging on about this? Oh, sorry yeah, I digress: Ratner at the helm of the new Conan movie? Would it REALLY be any worse then Conan The Destroyer? I say “Not”.

I’m not on a witch hunt for the guy, but the decline in quality from X2 to X3 was painfully noticeable to me. Even lay folk who had no idea about the director shuffle behind the scenes noticed it. No matter who stepped into the role of director for X3, the movie would not have been the same as Singer’s films, so in that instance The Rat was scapegoated by a lot of fans. Still, I do wish I could have seen Singer’s treatment of the Phoenix saga.
I wish I had seen anyone but Ratner’s version of Rush Hour 3! LOL
