RAMBO 5 Confirmed?

Wyv was going to report this but he wasn’t feeling very well (that’s God way of saying “Make people’s talkback background the colour of “poo” and I will smite your immune system!” So read into that what you will Mr Wyv, sir!) so asked me to do it for him:

Back at the start of April, I reported this story regarding Rambo 5 in which ‘RamboFan’ questioned the validity of my facts. I have since had ‘RamboFan’ brutally beaten and shipped over to Burma so he can live out his days under the conditions depicted in clearly his favourite movie! Anyhoodle, I digress…

JoBlo spotted that Rambo V is being rolled out with Lionsgate, minus any of the pre-production pomp and circumstance granted to Stallone’s fourth effort. The great “spot” was actually buried deep within another article concerning the changing of department heads over at Lionsgate. Alli Shearmur and Mike Paseornek are now both co-presidents of production over at Lionsgate and took the time to announce a few projects that are currently in the works, including Rambo V:

On the development horizon are “Warrior,” which Gavin O’Connor co-wrote and will direct; “Conan,” a fast-tracked project with multiple scripts in the works; “Severance Package,” with Brett Simon writing and directing; “Rambo V,” to be written and directed by Sylvester Stallone…

I didn’t hold much affection for Stallone’s Rambo (my review of which can be found here) but as I said in the talkbacks, it is most definitely a grower and I have a huge amount of affection for it now. I can sort of see why there are people who treat the Rocky franchise like there is only Parts 1, 2 and 6 because I now do a similar sort of thing: I am no fan of Rambo 2 or 3, but I ADORE First Blood. As a post-pub throwaway action flick I have really started to take to Part 4, strangely enough, for all the reasons I listed for hating it in my review!

Part 5? Hmmm… It’ll be intriguing to see where he goes with it, I will admit. But he’s stretching things now physically as it is so unless this is ready to be seen within two years I’d be very sceptical about just how much incredulity we’re prepared to let go!

I would actually like it if he tried something different, like a character piece about Rambo trying to connect with his family and people around or some shit.

It won’t happen, but it would be cool if it did.

Yeah, have Ed Asner as his dad and Chuck Norris as his brother, sit them in a cabin and just bitch on at each other…

… That shit almost writes itself! :)

Yeah, I’m loving Stacey Keach now thanks to early seasons of PRISON BREAK.

That could work. Stallone, Keach and Norris.

Right, let’s get down to working on the script then…

    *sigh*

I bet this is exactly what Matt Damon had to put up with when he was writing the script for GOOD WILL HUNTING with Ben Affleck.

Right… Grundy. Who do you want to play the brother if not Chuck then?

    ;) lol :p
