PUNISHER: WAR ZONE Comic-Con Footage

So during the SD Comic-Con The Punisher: War Zone panel debuted a new clip from the re-imagining directed by Lexi Alexander, complete with exploding heads, chairs in the eye and a look at Jigsaw, the mob boss horribly disfigured by Frank Castle (here played by Ray Stevenson) who Castle is now trying to hunt down and finish the job of killing him. And thanks to IGN you can now see it online, right below here. Cue the hard rock soundtrack!

Now, I’ll come right out and say it. This still looks crap to me. It might be fun for a blood filled Friday night movie viewing experience but I’m damned if I think I’m going to prefer this to the Thomas Jane starring Punisher movie. Still, I could be wrong and it might knock my socks off.

But I doubt it!

A couple of things I thought while watching the trailer though:

1) Jigsaw, in the glimpses we see of him, looks stupid! Maybe a clearer look at him will change my mind but he looked more like Arse-Face from The Preacher comics than Jigsaw!

2) Why the hell did they include one of those stupid Matrix-esque jumps off of a wall?!? God I hate that move.

3) I still hate the way the Punisher’s skull flashes when the lights go out - what, does the guy have a light in his chest now?

4) Castle must have been working out quite a lot as he now seems to be able to cave peoples heads in in one punch! And jump quite long distances….

Am I going to be wrong? Am I going to actually like this movie when it comes out? Or is it just going to be a case of watching it and going “meh”?

The only good thing I can say is that at least it doesn’t look like they are going to be toning the violence down, which is at least one step in the right direction. Still, I can’t help thinking how great this movie could have been if Thomas Jane and Walter Hill had been involved, as was rumoured long ago. Ah, the sweet imaginings of what could have been……

The Punisher: War Zone will be caving heads in in one punch on the 5th of December 2008.

This looks utter shit. SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! Of the highest order. It is 1min58 of nothing but offense to my delicate sensibilities - it makes any post 1999 Steven Seagal movie look like something that would better Die Hard.

Horrific!

The Tom Jane version had its issues but there was a lot of commendable qualities to it. This is just dire - but really, did we honestly expect any different from that talentless bitch who did GREEN STREET?

SuperHeroHype live blogged the panel last night, I just kinda went what the **** this comment from one of the producers.

“They talked a bit about why they got Lexi Alexander to direct, and it was partially because she was a martial arts champion.”

Looks like not really much has been changed from the script I read, except the opening assault. And even that’s still retarded.

You know, if you go on YouTube and look up “Lookin’ Out My Backdoor” by Children of Bodom and play it over the music video, it makes infinitely more entertaining, especially when the banjo kicks in.

Also, for Gareth here’s a better shot of West as Jigsaw, poor McNulty…. It really seems like he’s going to be chewing up a whole scenery in this movie.
