Optimus Prime Stomps Out HARRY POTTER’s IMAX Release!
So I’ve been waiting on this stinkin’ Harry Potter film to just come out already after the release date was delayed. Now, it looks like there’s yet another delay in Potter‘s release, at least on the IMAX front. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story goes like this: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was supposed to drop in November 2008, and the IMAX version was to be released simultaneously with the regular release. Now that the film has been rescheduled to open July 15th, this puts Potter in conflict with Transformers 2, which is scheduled to still be on IMAX screens during Potter‘s run. So, who do you think IMAX sided with? Optimus Prime, of course. Personally, I think they backed the right horse, financially speaking. Transformers 2 is going to be a beast, so Harry Potter fans who wanted to see it in IMAX will have to wait two weeks after the theatrical release date, unless you’re in NY/LA, who will each get the film on exactly one IMAX screen. I think this is going to negatively impact HP‘s IMAX take. I’m willing to bet that most folks who wanted to see it in IMAX aren’t going to wait two weeks to see the film on the big screen. By the time it is released in IMAX, most of the fanbase will have already seen it once, maybe even twice. Are all of these people going to shell out the money that they would have if the film had been released in IMAX on schedule? I don’t think so. This new date has certainly affected my choice of whether to see it in IMAX. My IMAX is an hour away, and in a recession summer with gas prices going through the roof, I’m only going to make the IMAX pilgrimage once, and that’ll be for Transformers 2. I like Harry Potter a lot, but it’s not worth having to gas up my car to get there and paying extra for a ticket to see it on a giant screen.

Transformers 2 with get LOADS of cash. Harry Potter will too, but I think IMAX went with the right choice. I honestly don’t know which one will get more opening weekend, or overall but that’s because they will be so freaking neck and neck
Oh this doesnt impact me at all, im the biggest fan of the HP movies in this whole country, and i love the books, so ill be watching it 2ce each week, and when it comes out in imax ill be watching it again
Everytime an HP movie comes out i watch it once with my best friend at midnight opening day (or night)who has been reading HP with me since 5th grade when the 1st book came out, then my other friends, thyen with my family, then with the other side of the family (them last because they seldom go to the movies)
And then ill watch it in IMAX in the same order i just explained up there^^^
Then i gotta get the DVD…i have all the HPs…transformers are cool but, HPs story is like, 45,0000 times better then anything Michael bay will ever be able to think of, i dont think hell ever even get the books, his brain will explode
Its the story that makes HP 2000 times better then transfornmers…and it also has a lot of action which wasnt used in the movies, but they still rule
See, if it had come out in November, it wouldn’t have been a problem for me at all. I would have still been in college in Raleigh, where the IMAX is literally a five minute drive from campus. Now that it’s going on in July and I’ve graduated, I’m not as close to the IMAX anymore and I gotta be discerning with how I spend my money. I’m not poor, but I ain’t rich, either.
Your IMAX was 5 minutes away? Dang, my nearest IMAX is in Tampa, and I mean DEEP in Tampa, like 1 hour 30 minutes south of here.
Hazmat
They seldom go to the movies If I never went to the theater, I would die lol
But the other side of my family goes all the time
Good. Btw have any of you seen Pelham 1 2 3 yet (the remake). It was good but could have stood a lot more action…3/5
I’m going to see Pelham 123 today with my sister. I’ll post that review along with my Up review.
Cool. What about Hangover review? ahhaha that movie was hilarious
Boo, we couldn’t get into Pelham today, but we’re gonna try again tomorrow.
And I will do a Hangover review. Everyone is telling me it’s great, so I’ll try to see it soon.
I just saw drag me to hell…dont watch it.
Hazmat, I don’t agree, I read the script and loved it, course that’s just the script…..
Dang i’m disagreeing too much with you lately lol
The Taking of Pelham, The Hangover, Transformers 2 pffft. The only three movies that I plan on seeing in the next month are Black Devil Doll, In the Loop and Moon.
Aaron
Oh no! Not a handkerchief!
Handkerchiefs! How did you know!? My only weaknesses!
“You wont help me out of my debt?? Now i shall CURSE you!”
“You, child! you dare steal my shitty 20 cent bead necklace??? Now I shall kill you!”
lol, Hazmat have you seen The Hangover?
That thing about Drag Me to Hell has to be one of the dumbest posts you’ve made.
Drag Me to Hell was one of the dumbest movies ever made
Obviously you havent seen it
Theres really IS a scene were she gets attacked by a hanky
And yes, the movie revolves around an old lady cursing people for doing shit like not helping her with her taxes or stealing a shitty bead necklace
My sister was like “Oh that was such a good movie..it got 3 1/2 stars”
I had to leave the room quickly or else i would have thrown her out the window.
Theres a scene with the old lady pulling a brick out of nowhere and throwing it at a car that almost made me cry out of laughter.
**** it, just watch the goddamn movie.
No I’ve seen it, and it was ****ing wonderful. That officially makes anything you say regarding film suspect.
But you know what sucks shit, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Oh. My. GOD.
I’d like to intervene and prevent the war before it starts. Film is subjective (as Campea likes to say) and everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can disagree on whether you liked a movie or not, but for the love of God, do not bring The Paltrow into this.
I’d also like to advertise my upcoming UP and PELHAM 123 reviews! Should be up within the day!
I refuse to be lectured by someone that likes Drag me to Hell but wont watch the hangover.
Sure, fine- Drag me to hell was “****ing wonderful”
Ok.
Next time you watch it make sure youre not on meth.
As for the Gwyneth Paltrow comment, I dont think i can ever take your opinion regarding movies or actors/actresses seriously after choosing In The Lop over Transformers 2.
Or saying that the academy award winning, Empire award best actress, golden globe winner, 2 time screen actors guild award, satelite award, MTVs best kiss winner sucks.
And she was nominated 9 other times for other irrelevant awards.
And she just got a Grammy nomination.
And she helps the poor of New York and helps people with breast cancer.
And god knows how much money shes made with the est lauder perfume thing
And shes done all this without breast implants or flashing her vagina.
And she looks great with that blue dress in ironman.
YOU suck!
::: cries ::::
Ok Kristina sounds good about your reviews coming.
UP is by far the best movie in the last year and a half.
Havent seen palham 123 but ill watch it just because of Denzel
Film is subjective, but in the case of Drag Me to Hell, if didn’t like it you obviously are a horrible person that doesn’t like good movies.
Hazmat, dude Watchmen is the best of the year…yep…feel free to disagree anyone. But UP is an EXTREMELY close second place. Hangover, is number three
That means Shakespeare in Love, The Lion King, Shawshank Redemption, Ghost, TDK, UP, Harry potter (2,5,3,1,4) Shawn of the Dead, Edward Scissor hands, a nightmare before christmas, Shindlers List, Mulan, The Iron Giant and Full Metal Jacket must be horrible movies since thats my list of favorite movies (in that precise order)
As for the horrible person thing…Ok. =|
HOLY shit Aaron, okay put Watchmen in my list as #7 right before UP
…forgot about watchmen…
And UP is better in my opinion (SLIGHTLY) but I agree, Watchmen was amazing, i freaking loved it
