New THE SPIRIT Trailer, Same Suckiness!

What the heck is this?

Really, somebody decipher what the heck that was and get back to me!  The line deliveries are all over the top, and not in a good way.  Sam Jackson looks out of this world in the worst way imaginable, and once again, the only good thing about the trailer is the song in the background.  This movie looks downright laughable to me.  Are any of you holding out hope for this thing?

    That’s Sin City 1.5 isn’t it?

Nah, all joking aside, I think it does look pretty bad. Frank Miller is a wonderful comic book artist, and I truly do love the Sin City comics, but I feel that he has done an injustice to The Spirit here by making it look like Sin City rather than Eisner’s Spirit. Which is a real shame as he has said that he is a big fan of Eisner’s comic strip and wanted to bring it to the screen as Eisner envisioned it.

    Yeah, way to go Frank!

I’ll give it a go even though I still think SIN CITY is better as a technical achievement then it is as an overall film. I like the cast on this too which will drag me to it but I’m going to call it out for what no other online medium seems to be saying (which AMAZES me) from what I have read:

It just looks TOO CAMP! Or is that what’s required re the source material. I’m unfamiliar with it you see!

I’m really not sure. I’m not overly familiar with the original comic myself but from the Wikipedia entry it seems to suggest the original wasn’t that camp!

The stories ranged through a wide variety of styles, from straightforward crime drama and noir to lighthearted adventure, from mystery and horror to comedy and love stories, often with hybrid elements that twisted genre and expectations.

What’s also interesting from the Wikipedia page is a mention of The Octopus, which is the character played by Jackson:

The story changed continually, but certain themes remained constant: the love between the Spirit and Dolan’s feisty protofeminist daughter Ellen; the annual “Christmas Spirit” stories; and the Octopus (a psychopathic criminal mastermind who was never seen, except for his distinctive gloves).

Obviously that has changed a bit! ;)

I’ll be honest – I will check it out, but certainly not in the cinema! I’ll wait for the DVD release I think.

To be honest mate, I couldn’t get my brain to accept half of what you wrote. The bright orange, the hued greens. Total colour bombard. Please tell me that it is your wife who takes charge of your home interior decorations?

    Yours Sincerely

You thought this topic was dead didn’t you? Nooooo, Kris and I have just been lying in wait. Ready to pounce. Like a ninja. Two ninjas. One sexy, seductive, deadly but utterly gorgeous… and the other one is Kris!

If the colours change then I will call off our attack on you. Hang on a second…

[Psst, just put down the bag of flaming dog shit. It’s okay! We’ve sorted it out civilly. He’s going to change it!]

Anyway, sorry about that Wyv. You were saying…

    ;) lol

Hey Gareth, you know what you should do, you should give me a background color that isn’t shit colored to piss them off.

    It’ll be great.

  7. Gazz

Grundy, we’re already pissed off about our shit covered talkbacks anyway pal. Anyone who knows Wyv knows that he doesn’t like to do “overkill”.

And that would be overkill! LOL!

I emailed this to my mom to watch and she couldn’t stop laughing. She thinks it’s a comedy. I’m not joking. A COMEDY.

  9. Gazz

I’m being 100% genuine when I say this and not playing this for laughs but I HONESTLY thought this thing was being played for laughs.

    It isn’t?!?

  10. Kristina

I honestly can’t tell if it’s supposed to be sort of a tongue-in-cheek thing like Dick Tracy, or if it is genuinely Miller’s wish for people to take this thing seriously.

  11. Grundy

It’s hard to tell with Miller these days. I’m not entirely sure if how he’s currently writing All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder is intentional or not.

That said, I can’t wait to read his Holy Terror, Batman! graphic novel which invloves Batman kicking Al-Qaeda’s ass.
