New STAR TREK Pics Pop Up Online!

I’m not too jazzed about the new Star Trek movie, but I’m sure that some of you are.  So, here’s some new pics to tide you over until next year.    Some folks have been whining about the color of Captain Kirk’s shirt, but if the worst we have to worry about is a shirt’s color, I think we’re home free.  Click to enlarge this puppy, and once you go to the link page, there are other pics in a box on the right of the page to look at.  May I say the pic with Pegg in the background as Scotty…why does he look so mad and snotty?

    yeeah- kirks shirt isnt black

people KNOW him with a yellow shirt. i think that he looks WAAY better in black and i HATE yellow but hes captain kirk and he wears a yellow shirt

i mean when u think of kirk you think of star treck dude with a yellow shirt

its better having him in yellow so that people will recognize him

im not saying itll make the movie bad or that the whole movie dependson the color of his shirt…just that we know him by the look…just like the green power ranger or bumblebee who is yellow

Um, I hate to point this out, but Kirk isn’t going to be “Captain Kirk” in the movie, or if he is it’s not going to be when we first meet him! Lindelof, in the article that accompanied the MTV photo of Kirk on the Enterprise bridge, points out that the black shirt is “significant” to this particular scene, so the black shirt is probably only for this brief period.

Regardless, if the only thing people can complain about about the new Trek movie from these photo’s is that Kirks shirt should be yellow instead of black (not forgetting that the shirt colours changed over the years anyway) I think that they really need to get out into the outside world more! Gotta love those Trekkers/Trekkies (what ever the hell they’re calling themselves now!) ;)

 The comment about Trekkies needing to get out more wasn’t actually directed at you Hazmat! ;)

As for Kirk, he might well become a Captain during the course of the movie, but as part of the movie covers his taking of the Kobayashi Maru test, and his subsequent beating of the “no win situation”, during his Starfleet Acadmy training, so at least until that is complete he wouldn’t be a Captain. And considering that as far as we know the new movie will follow established continuity, unless it jumps forwards a few years by the end of the movie, it’s doubtful that he’ll have attained the rank of Captain by the end of the movie.

In established continuity (according to the Wiki anyway) Kirk became an Ensign through a field commision on the Starship USS Republic after beating the Kobayshi Maru where he earns promotion to lieutenant junior grade and returns to Starfleet as a student instructor. Upon graduation he is promoted to lieutenant and serves aboard the USS Farragut. Continuing to rise rapidly through the ranks he earns promotion to Captain, and is given charge of the USS Enterprise, replacing Captain Pike.

Now, it’s possible that the new movie is going to only give us a quick trip through Kirks’ career, showing us the highlights of his early path through Starfleet and culminate in his promotion to the bridge of the Enterprise, but at this time I don’t think anyone knows for sure. The one thing we do know, though, is that Captain Pike does appear in the movie, so it would make sense that he is in charge of the Enterprise for at least some of the movie. We’ll have to wait and see, I guess.

And while I agree with you about the colour of Kirks shirt being primarily yellow, the uniforms of the Star Trek have changed drastically over the years – hell, they even changed between the pilot episode of the original series and the series proper so any differences are easily explained! ;)

Uuurgh, waaaaaay to “geeky” in here! I’m off!

    PS
Never seen a STAR TREK movie in my life. Tried half of STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT but it didn’t hold my interest.

BUT I’m intrigued enough to give this a go, I have to say!
