NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS Gets It’s UK Release Date

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

The sequel to National Treasure, the imaginatively titled National Treasure: Book Of Secrets, has been allocated it’s UK release date. It’s going to be hitting our shores on the 8th of February 2008, so fans of the first movie don’t have long to wait to see the continuing adventures of treasure hunter Ben Gates (played once again by Nicholas Cage). This time out a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth appears and suddenly Ben’s grandfather is implicated in Abraham Lincoln’s death. Setting out on a quest to prove his ancestor’s innocence Ben follows a chain of clues which lead him from Paris to London and back to America where he and his crew discover the trail to the worlds most treasured secrets.

Now I have honestly never seen all of National Treasure. I’ve watched the beginning a couple of times but for one reason and another I’ve never seen it all. Kept on meaning to, as it looks like it’s a fun watch, but I just never have, so I’m not in a huge rush to check this one out but I have to admit that the trailer does look like it should be a fun popcorn flick. You can check out the trailer below in a variety of formats:

I have seen the trailer for this twice in theaters, and both times the theater has erupted in incredulous laughter. The trailer’s utterly serious tone in the face of such ridiculous subject matter…just listen to the LINES!

    “A letter from the Queen!”
“The book of secrets holds all of the President’s secrets!”

    HORRID HORRID HORRID.

Yeah, but do you not remember how much shit the first film’s trailer looked and how many people shat on it, saying it was a “poor man’s DA VINCI CODE rip-off!” then when DA VINCI CODE came out, everyone was like “Man, I wish it was more like NATIONAL TREASURE. That film was ace!”

I reckon this could be the best film of next year’s pre-Blockbuster, “sleepy season”. It’s not hard though. Barely any truly great films get released in February!
