MONSTER SQUAD Remake?!?!
There are times when I wish that someone else would write certain pieces of news. Like when a piece of news hits that makes some part of me shudder in fear and hurt.
Now, I know we’re only talking movies here. I know that it’s not going to have an affect on the credit crunch or other difficulties facing us here in the UK, or the political situations around the world, but dammit this is a movie site and if I want to get upset about a movie announcement then I’m gonna!
Right, so anyway Bloody Disgusting via AICN have reported that Rob Cohen, who will soon be giving us The Mummy 3, is in talks with Paramount to produce, and possibly direct, a remake of classic 80’s movie The Monster Squad, which Paramount have acquired the rights to.
Excuse me a second…..
AAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! NOOOOOOOO! GET YOUR HANDS OFF IT!!!!!
So where were we? Here’s a quote from Cohen:
“The Wolfmans got Nards! What a great line” Cohen jokes with Bloody-Disgusting. “I am talking with Paramount about the ownership rights, we just found out that because of all the different companies being bought and sold, (it was so hard to do) but we believe all the rights are back at Paramount. I have been waiting to finish this (third Mummy) film, to really start the talks about remaking it. Maybe I would direct, maybe someone else with me producing. I really think highly of that that film…I mean, how great is it with The Mummy, the Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Frankenstein they all were in it! It would be a prime remake!”
Cohen, if you didn’t know, was actually one of the producers of the original Fred Dekkar movie but does that mean that I welcome his involvement with a potential remake? Hell, do I even want to see a remake of this movie? The answer to both of those questions is an emphatic NO! I love the hell out of the original, and having watched it on DVD quite a few times since it got it’s R1 release I have to say that age has not diminshed it in anyway, shape or form, and I absolutely hate the idea of it being remade. I just don’t think it could recapture the charm or brilliance of the 1987 version.
Horrible, horrible, news.
And just in case we’re in any doubt as to my feelings, if Cohen goes ahead with this and screws it up I will be tracking him down and kicking him in the nards. HARD!

As I said when I broke this news to you via messenger yesterday mate… Am I intrigued by what Cohen could pull out of the bag with MUMMY 3? Yes. Do I want him or anyone else bastardising one of my absolute childhood favourites? No, sir!
However, kudos for perfectly encapsulating the fanboy outrage in a rather restrained fashion! Well done you! LOL! No petitions? No threatening to burn Cohen’s house down?
Oh wait, you wrote this… not me! LOL
