MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Gets It’s Max?

According to the Hollywood Reporter “Heat Vision” blog there are casting movements on George Miller’s fourth Mad Max movie, currently titled Mad Max: Fury Road, and it looks increasingly like a new actor will be filling the Road Warrior boots of Max Rockatansky instead of Mel Gibson.

Before we get to the casting news, which you’ve probably read elsewhere anyway, I just want to say I don’t think it’s a bad thing that someone else will be taking on the role of Max. I have nothing against Mel Gibson as an actor, and the recent trailer for Edge of Darkness (see the trailer here)proves that he can still do intense with ease, but I do think a new actor in the role of Max is a good thing. As long as it’s the right actor, of course.

Which brings us to the person who apparently is in negotiations to play the role is British actor Tom Hardy. Now, if you’re not sure who he is he played the role of Shinzon in Star Trek Nemesis and (more encouragingly) has had roles in Waz, Black Hawk Down, RocknRolla and most recently as Charles Bronson in Bronson.

I think he’s a good fit for the role, and should bring the right kind of intensity to the part, so I think it’s a really good choice.

Also reported to be currently negotiating for a role as “the female lead” is Chalize Theron but, at the moment, it’s unclear what the role is (romantic connection for Max, maybe?) or what the actual plot of Mad Max: Fury Road is but I for one am glad that the Road Warrior is going to be riding the tarmac once more.

He’s a good choice, but it only mentions he was cast not what role so, he may be Max he may not be.
