Jan de Bont Surfing The Waves For POINT BREAK: INDO

IESB are reporting that Jan de Bont has been hired by RGM & Essential Entertainment to direct the (seriously long gestating) sequel to the 1991 surfing/action movie hit, Point Break. The new movie is going to be called Point Break: Indo and be set mainly in Indonesia (hence the title) and even though there has been no official word on casting it is believed that the production company have approached both Keanu Reeves & Patrick Swayze (Bohdi lives!) about appearing in the sequel.

They have also revealed the synopsis for the new movie. Which is as follows:

When Billy Dalton, military special ops and star surfer, is disqualified from the pro-surfing tour, he takes off for the coast of Bali looking for the perfect wave.  While there he’s recruited by a private security force who are trying to find a gang known as The Bush Administration, surfing outlaws and modern day pirates who work like “The Ex-Presidents,” a bank robbing crew from Malibu twenty years ago.

Ooooh military special ops rather than FBI……

Seriously, I actually really rather liked the original and I saw it not that long ago on TV and it was still an enjoyable, if sometimes unintentionally funny, movie and think that a sequel of sorts isn’t a bad idea. And Jan de Bont isn’t a stranger to high octane action movies. And it’s not like we’re talking high art here - it’s a movie about bank robbing surfers for God’s sake!

I think this could turn out to be a big, dumb, fun popcorn movie.

interesting… but they still approaching both keanu and Swayze, so there’s a possibility that one of them or maybe both of them won’t join the sequel
