EVIL DEAD 4 Is Dead?

Just caught this little tidbit of info on the ever reliable bastion of information, Teletext UK, but if it has come from the mouth of none other than Messiah Campbell then I don’t think you can get more reliable then this. Sorry to break your hearts all you die hard ‘Deadites’ (is that the right term?) but it seems that The Evil Dead 4 and the continued adventures of Ash as you know and love him presently are not to be. According to Bruce Campbell, none other than Ash himself:

“… Part 4 is dead in the water, pretty much for sure. As I’m aware they’re rebooting the whole franchise with a remake that we don’t figure in and plus Sam [Raimi] is too big a studio-player these days to come back down to the trenches and get muddied up with his old friends. Last I heard he’s prepping Spider-Man 4 and mulling over The Hobbit!”

Oh well, as much as I dig the hell out of the Evil Dead movies I can’t say I’m going to lose any sleep if I don’t see a fourth movie. What do you guys think?

Hi there actually it is being made. The script is on hold. They are just looking for a another director since Robert Tapert does not want to participate. The release is planned for some time in 2009. The remake of The Evil Dead is being made around the same time by a Japanese director.

    ronoa08, can you provide sources?

My sentiments exactly. Whose the source on this?

The last I heard was that the project is dead, namely because the only way Campbell and company want to go (i.e. Ash waking up in the future and fighting the evil dead there!) is not the way they can afford themselves to go, plus Raimi isn’t “that interested”.

I think that info is from old web sources. I was reading about the old bot director doing ED remake about 2 years ago, nothin since then. I doubt ED 4 will see the lght of day.

it is going to be filmed (although under the title Army of Darkness 2)
Campbell, Raimi, and Tapert are all on board, they are waiting for Raimi to finish his current Spiderman cash cow.

source - horrorexpress.com / imdb.com / and it seems to be the concensus that it will be “in production” for a while, so dont expect it any time soon

Well i personally don’t think it needs a fourth installment. Not when i gave us that awsome theatrical S-mart ending in army of darkness. I deffenetly will jump off my chair if there is a fourth installment. But I seriously doubt it. But i do believe the remake is still going fourth. But Evil Dead four looks less likely

Well, you would have to fully dismember a deadite to kill it. Perhaps the same applies to this talkback.

Cock knockery!! If this is absolute truth I am destined to an eternal depression as everyday I wake only for the slightest sliver of hope that Bruce Campbell will be once again reprising his role in the Evil Dead series. I could care less about the remake as it just won’t be Bruce….

The latest I heard ChurchofCampbell, which I was reticent to post for now coz I really couldn’t be arsed with getting verbally filleted in the talkbacks by some die hard Campbell Nazi telling me I’m full of shit, is that whilst the concept of a fourth movie is very much dead, the proposed remake is on rocky foundations too.

Campbell said recently he loves the work he’s done recently on MY NAME IS BRUCE and if he was going to get “sequel-itis” about anything it would pursuing the dead-in-the-water sequel for BUBBA HO TEP and doing more MY NAME IS BRUCE movies!

    Evil Dead is… Dead!
