DreamLogic Has ROGUE PANCAKES! Yes, ROGUE! PANCAKES!
What’s great about my online ‘friendship’ with Chris from DreamLogic is that it came about through movies but thankfully it’s not based on movies. Thank God because I don’t think there’s a film out there that we’ve ever agreed on liking or disliking (But Chris, sir, have you seen Brandon Lee’s Rapid Fire? Come on now. Greatest under-rated B-movie of the mainstream martial arts variety EVER?).
Anyway, Chris recently posted his review of Rogue over at his wonderful site (if you’ve never visited, why the hell not?) and regular readers here will know that not only have I been a strong supporter of that flick through it’s tribulations but I kinda dug it as well. I know I’m in the minority on this fact. Everyone I have shown it to, came away non-plussed so there’s more chance of the general population agreeing with Chris then with me, I’m aware of that. But this isn’t what this article is about. No, you’ve read the headline. You know that I’m just stalling you…
Check this out! How cool is this? Chris’ WIFE (I only found this out in the last 24 hours - congratulations on… erm… TWO YEARS of marriage?!? lol) Kris is an absolute delight eh? She should really consider a business in this - the possibilities are endless; Robocop pancakes, Pirates of the Carribean pancakes, What Happens In Vegas pancakes… okay, maybe not the last one!

Thanks Gazz! These things were so cool, I felt kind of guilty eating them.
Rapid Fire…I remember watching it after seeing The Crow, sometime in my junior high days. I can’t say it made much of an impression on me, but I’ll be sure to take a second look.
I have a major soft spot for RAPID FIRE. Ludicrously OTT plot, well-paced, great character actors (Nick Mancuso, Al Leong AND Powers Boothe - in the same movie?!?), ridiculous power-ballads by Hardline (x2) and some pretty ****in brilliant action sequences!
It’s an absolutely ACE post-pub movie!
I also point you in the direction of Issue # 21 of OFF THE SHELF where, in regards to RAPID FIRE I said:
“…A martial-arts-action-adventure/straight-to-video slice of B-movie heaven starring the late, pre-The-Crow Brandon Lee as Jake Lo, a college student pursued by smugglers, mobsters and crooked federal agents and he witnesses a murder by a Mafia kingpin (the absolutely out-there-but-all-the-better-for-it Nick Mancuso). When the witness protection programme fails him, Lo has to protect himself with the only weapons he has – his “bare hands” (ho, ho!)! Determined to survive, he goes head to head with Chicago’s warring drug lords with the assistance of a renegade cop (the always ace Powers Boothe) and his beautiful partner (Kate Hodge). This is the sort of movie where roundhouse kicks take out wooden beams without nary a broken leg, where sliding through sheets of glass to take out a bad guy on a motorcycle doesn’t warrant a single drop of blood, where the hero ****s the gorgeous sexy cop just to give us a love scene, where there’s not one, but two, songs by Hardline on the soundtrack and the superb climax ends with a slow pull-out on the disaster zone whilst emergency services attend to things and we rise into the night skyline, just like in Die Hard. Huge, unadulterated B-movie fun! Every man should own this movie and watch it once on Christmas Eve every year (even though the film has nothing to do with Christmas!) and then, pumped up with adrenaline as a result of the movie, kick the living shit out of Santa Claus when he comes down the chimney and claim he was “an intruder” when the cops show up!”
