Don Cheadle Replacing Terrence Howard In IRON MAN 2!!!! *UPDATED*

Aww no! Terrence, what were you THINKING?!  According to that article from the good people at The Hollywood Reporter, it was a money squabble that led to Terrence Howard walking away from Iron Man 2.  Now it looks like Don Cheadle will be suiting up as War Machine instead!  Now, nothing against Cheadle, but I can’t stand actor changes in the midst of a franchise.  Man, I can’t stand it.  Now, before you start screaming Maggie Gyllenhaal’s name at me, yes I’m aware that she did a better job than Holmeslice, but it still screws with continuity and I don’t like that at all.  This is big time bummer news for me.

*UPDATE* Terrence Howard is now speaking out about this situation, and apparently, he’s just as, if not more shocked than the rest of us. He was interviewed by NPR and called the recasting a “surprise”.  CHUD has a brief transcript of his thoughts on this, but I’d recommend listening to the interview here.  Actually hearing him talk about it makes me feel bad for him, like he truly didn’t know that he was gonna get the heave-ho.  The Iron Man chat kicks in at 4:31 if you’re interested.

    ugh..i hated rachel
i hated maggie gyllenhaal and katie holmes equally

and why cant they just MAKE SURE that the actors are down for sequels BEFORE they make the movie??? i mean i keep hearing ed norton wont be in the avengers…then why the **** did they have him as hulk!? get someone that isnt retarded ans is down for sequels

and who the hell would ever say no to being war machine??????

That’s what I don’t get either, Hazzy. Usually they lock actors into a three-movie contract right when they sign on to the first one. What’s going on here?

  • Grundy Said on October 15th, 2008 at 3:06 am 4

    Marvel are cheap mother****ers.

Contracts can be gotten out of, depends on what the stipulations were in it. Thomas Jane was able to get of Punisher: War Zone because he had script approval.

yeah like nightcrawler, they gave him a contract for xmen 2 and 3 then they didnt use him in x-men 3 (wtf?)

but i absolutely hate it..i HATE IT when actors pussy out and say they dont want to be a superhero anymore…oh and btw thomas jane didnt walk out..they kicked him out because they wnated a reboot…so he then started talking shit about it…he didnt leave it..

and who in this green planet wouldnt want to be WAR MACHINE!? i mean isnt that awsome? who can say no to that! forget the money dude youre freaking war machine! so then why leave?

and i hear it was THEM that kicked HIM out so then if they did…why did they make it so obvious that he was going to be war machine in ironman if they werent sure wether to fire this guy or not?

  • Grundy Said on October 15th, 2008 at 4:19 am 6

No, Jane left. It was rebooted after Lexi Alexander came on and rewrote a bad earlier version of the script that he rejected into an even worse one.

I know it’s weird in this day and age that an actor will pass on a project, rather than taking a paycheck gig.

  • Kristina Said on October 15th, 2008 at 5:48 am 7

It’s not like Terrence Howard has a million projects lined up, either. He’s a big Iron Man fan from childhood, and I know he was pumped to play War Machine. I don’t get what happened here. Either he’s a greedy lil’ tool, or Marvel is low-balling like crazy.

  • Grundy Said on October 15th, 2008 at 8:03 am 8

I’d go with low balling. If someone like Howard wants a bit of pay bump, you give it to him.

  • HAZMAT_LIKES_VAMPIRES Said on October 15th, 2008 at 10:29 am 9

well hes an imbecile and now were all paying for it…

lets just thank god they kept robert downey…because i know this could be alot worse

oh and not to mention this guys skinny as hell…but whatever i guess im just pissed at how akwars its going to look to have another guy be war machine

    these are tragic news

oh and while war machine is being replaced tobey mcwire is still spiderman..wtf!?

  • Kristina Said on October 15th, 2008 at 8:24 pm 10

Cheadle’s size isn’t an issue. Let us not forget that Downey is a ****ing midget. If we’re talking bulk issue, he’s in a suit. It’s not like he’s using actual muscle power. Put me in a War Machine suit and I could bust some ass, too.

  • HAZMAT_LIKES_VAMPIRES Said on October 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm 11

lol yeah true that…i mean it is an upgrade from terrance because dons a better actor…so its all good

i just hate how they already set it up to look like itll be howard having him say lines like “next time baby” i mean cmon….laaamee

  • Kristina Said on October 16th, 2008 at 2:02 am 12

OMG I was watching IM on Blu-Ray just now, and when he says “Next time baby”, everyone in the room was like “NOPE!”

  • HAZMAT_LIKES_VAMPIRES Said on October 16th, 2008 at 2:37 am 13

    HAHAH i bet!

hey kristina- did you rewind the shield part? i was on that scene for like 45 minutes
i also rewinded every scene with paltrow…(shes the only actress im really atracted 2 idk y…MARRY ME!!)

did you get any deleted scenes? which oe did you get? my cousin got the one that looks like ironmnas mask but it shows nothing new and in the trailer they show a scene with ironman thats emphesized and its not on the movie
    :(

  • Kristina Said on October 16th, 2008 at 5:13 pm 14

There’s about a dozen deleted scenes on the DVD that are cute but were rightly cut from the movie. The movie looks great on my standard DVD, but watching it on Blu-Ray was just…DAMN, the suit looks so real you could reach into the tv and feel the scrapes and bullet holes.

  • Kristina Said on October 19th, 2008 at 5:41 am 15

You guys really should listen to that NPR interview. Dude sounds so bummed, and it doesn’t sound like a put-on to me.

  • Gazz Said on October 21st, 2008 at 12:48 pm 16

I would have firmly thought this was a publicity stunt and a fit up UNTIL I heard the interview itself. Man, I’m gutted! Although he wasn’t absolutely integral to the heartbeat of the IRON MAN franchise, I like you Kris, ****ing hate actor-cross-overs mid franchise!
