Disney & Depp Discussion Area # 1
This has been floating around the internet for a week now and I’ve really been meaning to post on it but time has not been something I’ve had much of this week. So what I plan to do is just throw down quick, brief articles on each bit of “news” in separate articles so that there’s an area created for discussions on the topic at hand! So, without further ado…
Johnny Depp is coming back as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Details are sparse at the moment as it is nothing more than an announcement, backed up by Jerry Bruckheimer’s assertion that they are only at the stage of working on a script. BUT what is known is that both Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom have publicly stated they do not want to go back AND Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush have said they would love nothing more than going back to the Pirates franchise every couple of years!
So this could shape up to be the exact sort of Pirates of the Caribbean movie I’ve yearned for since Curse of the Black Pearl – a romp with NO Knightley/Bloom! Bring it on I say! What’s your thoughts?

NONONONONONO. It was fun for one movie and descended into a convoluted bloated bore of a franchise. NO MORE.
Law of diminishing returns for me with this franchise:
Adored the first one!
Liked/Admired the second!
Knightley/Bloom flat out killed an already over-cooked third!
The simple fact is from everything Bruckheimer has been saying he’s FINALLY cottoned to what I’ve said all along about this franchise. It should never have been about building a mythos around the character of Jack Sparrow. It should have adopted the INDIANA JONES mentality and realised that they had an iconic character who would work if they moved him into fresh situations with each film.
The franchise should have been about Sparrow and his adventures, meeting new characters with each film and new villains etc. And from what I can gather with the fact that they’re using the end of 3 as a jumping off point only, then that could be the direction they’re heading in.
And I’m all for that! The minute they make any announcement regarding Knightley/Bloom’s involvement then I’m out completely!
