DEATHLY HALLOWS To Be In Two Parts?
There has been talk about filming the later Harry Potter movie adaptations into two parts ever since Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, to enable the makers to actually fit the entire story in without having to trim so much out, but so far they haven’t actually taken the plunge. But now, according to AICN, the crew of the movies have been told to prepare to make Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, which as everyone knows will be the last movie in the franchise, in two parts.
This, apparently, is so that they can fit all of the story in. And has absolutely nothing to do with trying to squeeze every last bit of money out of the franchise. Honest.
Sarcasm aside, I agree with the idea of splitting the some of the books into two movies. Goblet of Fire could really have benefited from being two movies, as the movie felt very rushed to me. As would have Order of the Pheonix and Half Blood Prince but I don’t think Deathly Hallows needs it. When I read the book I felt there was so much padding with the sections with Harry, Ron & Hermione in the woods that I really hoped that that section would get trimmed down in the movie, but now it looks like instead the movie(s) are going to feel as bloated and slow as the book did.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the extended running time of two movies would enable Deathly Hallows to be a fitting end for the popular franchise. Maybe having Guillermo del Toro as director, if he is indeed hired, combined with two movies will make Deathly Hallows the best Potter movie yet. But somehow I don’t think so.
But then, who can blame Warner Bros for wanting to try and squeeze every last bit of cash out of the franchise. After all, I seriously doubt that J.K Rowling would let Warner Bros develop “original” stories for the boy wizard and his friends so once Deathly Hallows has wrapped that will be it for the movie franchise, but I still honestly just see this as a way of making more money out of the hordes of Potter fans out there.

Can you say MONEY GRAB?!
I sure as hell can. They know this is the last hurrah in terms of making money off of this franchise(although they will MILK those DVDs…special edition…collector’s edition…Hermione’s legal edition…) so splitting it in two will double their money. Either way, someone gets screwed. If they make it a short movie, they have to cut stuff that the fans want to see. If they make the movie too long, it will only be able to play a certain number of times a day, limiting the box office returns.
