BOURNE 4 Officially A GO!
I suppose when a studio hires someone to write their latest flick, it’s safe to say that the flick is officially greenlit. Universal has hired a fellow by the name of George Nolfi, who helped scribble The Bourne Ultimatum, to scribble the next and as-yet untitled film in the Bourne series. Even better news is that Paul Greengrass, who directed Ultimatum and Supremacy, and star Matt Damon are also on board. I have to say, this series has grown on me from film to film. I liked The Bourne Identity, but not nearly as much as some people, including my dad who went more berserker than Wolverine over that thing. I liked Supremacy more, but man, Ultimatum was something else. I’m wary about continuing the franchise, because like many other great franchises, it runs the risk of being run into the ground eventually, but I’m interested in where they can take the character after the ending of Ultimatum. As long as they can maintain the quality of these films, I’m all for seeing another one. How about you guys?

loved the first, loved the 2nd, the 3rd was epic
NOW
kristina, after watching the awsome ending of the 3rd, was hazmat the olny one that left the theatre saying “oh OBVIOUSLY theres a 4th!!” i mean i dont wanna spoil the ending of the 3rd but I THOUGHT in my mind that it perfectly lead up to a 4rth..like it wasnt obvious…but it was hinted…like it was PERFECT
The Bourne movies were always going to continue, it just wasn’t certain if Matt Damon would be reprising the role or if they’d be pulling a “Bond” on the character.
But yes, I agree, I thought there was room for another sequel after the ending of the third movie. But it also worked as an end to the story, so I would have been happy either way. But I am glad that both Greengrass and Damon are going to be returning, at least for this one!
but arent there only 3 books? hazmat is confused
There are only three books. Bourne 4 will be an entirely original story.
Actually, there are 6 Bourne books. The original 3, which share the titles of the movies (even though the last two have completely different plots) & were written by Ludlum, obviously. And then there’s the new books, sanctioned by the Robert Ludlum estate & written by Ludlum’s friend, Eric Van Lustbader. I’ve read the first Lustbader Bourne & it is pretty good. Not that that really makes any difference as they’re not using them as the basis for the fourth movie.
Okay.
There seems to be a little bit of confusion here; BOURNE 4 isn’t a “go”. Greengrass and Damon aren’t signing on until they have seen a script.
The greenlighting of a script for a potential fourth came about because in a recent interview Damon was asked about a fourth movie and he said that he was open to it but was not willing to commit until he had seen a script. He then added “So they better get writing!”
So I guess that that is exactly what Universal have done; figuring that the quicker they get a blueprint first draft down and start working with Damon like they did on Part 2 and 3 the closer they’ll get to the screen.
Greengrass did say that any fourth one would have to be entirely original as they have deviated so far from the source material that there is no way back for them now.
I’ve read a couple of the books and, my mind isn’t entirely crystal clear, but I’m sure one of them leads off from Bourne living in the backwoods of America with his wife and child and when they are killed he goes out back into the big, bad city for revenge or something like that. Greengrass and Damon would never opt for that Rambo 5 style shit!
I hope this goes on from ‘script’ to ‘screen’!
They aren’t signed on? I’m confuzzed. The Hollywood Reporter article says they’re “attached” to Bourne 4. I guess being attached means they’re interested but not signed on yet?
It just puts them in the same position as Stallone on RAMBO 5 and Willis on DIE HARD 5. It means they’re interested and willing but waiting to see a script.
It’s more “interested in seeing a script”, if you know what I mean. lol
