Stale Popcorn

I have yet to experience the joy of watching Alvin & The Chipmunks - I assume it’ll only be a matter of time before my daughters see it on the shelves of our local DVD emporium and decide they want to watch it, but until that time I am going to pretend it doesn’t exist. Why? Well, mainly because I could never even stand the cartoon version so the thought of sitting down and watching the movie really doesn’t fill me with joy! But just because I don’t want to watch it doesn’t mean that the movie wasn’t a success with the movie going public. And pulling in a box office of $217,292,442 domestically in the USA has convinced Fox that they want to take another bite of the apple (Cherry. Acorn. Whatever the hell it is that chipmunks eat!) and make a sequel. But not until 2010…

Personally, even with my distaste for the idea of sitting down and watching the original, I think that’s a bit of a mistake. Alvin & The Chipmunks is a kids movie. And it’s the kids, making mummy & daddy take them to see it, that has made it a success. But, take it from a parent, kids grow up damn quick and what’s cool now probably won’t be in cool in two years time! So, sure, make a sequel. Get that money off of parents. But I’d put it into production a little sooner rather than later to get a release date before 2010!
