Angelina Jolie Replaces Tom Cruise - On Our Screens Maybe, But Not In Our Hearts!
Quick news update - and I’m going to keep it quick so that I don’t get dragged into all these debates that are allegedly taking place around the industry at the moment about the “impact” such a decision will have on ‘leading ladies’ now - but the Philip Noyce thriller, Edwin A. Salt, which had Tom Cruise attached will now undergo a rewrite so that Angelina Jolie can take the lead role.
And Hollywood, recognising that a mainstream lead male role has been re-written for a female are starting to talk about the “opening up” of many a woman’s career now that this is “possible”. What the fuck? “Possible”?
So when The Next Karate Kid was made up out of a disgarded Karate Kid IV script, because Ralph Macchio didn’t want to return, and Hilary Swank got her break, what was that? When The Game was rewritten from a female support (Jodie Foster) to a male (Sean Penn) what was that? When Sean Penn’s role in Flightplan was rewritten for Jodie Foster, was that “impossible”? I could go on and on and on and on and on…
… Let’s just say it’s a very, very, very slow news day if this is the debate people are getting caught up in!
DAMNIT! I got “caught up” in it, didn’t I? Rant over, I promise!
