We haven’t paid much mention to this film here on Stale Popcorn and I’ve only just encountered it in trailer form. I’m talking about The Forbidden Kingdom, an allegedly iconic martial arts property that puts Jackie Chan and Jet Li on screen together for the first time. It can’t be bad can it? Fuck that. Have you seen the trailer? It’s got The Weinstein Brother’s hands all over this as they sandwich in some annoying American teenager into proceedings. Count me out. Seriously. The trailer worked fantastically well, right up until the moment the spare-thumb of a teen was introduced into proceedings and the entire experience got immediately derailed for me. You can check the trailer out right here but this will be a ‘freebie’ encounter for me!

Yeah, my school is going to have an advanced screening of this one coming up soon, and I am not enthused.
Have to agree with Gazz on this, though I’d add that it’s because of style over substance shite like ‘The Transformers’ that we’ll no doubt continue to have a plethora of Shia LeBouef-esque ‘next big things’ shoved down our throats at every available opportunity. Could have been awesome.
I adored Jet Li’s FEARLESS but does anyone else await the arrival of this movie with the question of “Hey Jet, what happened to no more martial arts movies mate?”
To be fair, he said no more martial arts EPICS. Guess this one isn’t an epic, so he’s still a man of his word!
