A Message From Gazz!
Hello! No introductions required right? I’m the new “administrator” but the same old “Gazz”. This is just a quick howdy to explain what you can expect, now that my role has ‘changed’ slightly in the next month, and an update on a couple of situations relating to the site!
Changes? Well, in the long run and as long as Wyv is still the “bread-winning bill payer” then none in the immediate future. What changes there will be will be more content-related; Kris and I are going to busy ourselves how and when we can with keeping StalePopcorn fresh (is that an oxymoron?) with content – expect at LEAST one new review per week and with news items we’re really going to try on that front but I wouldn’t want to put a figure there, only for it to blow back in my face. Wyv, Kris and I would be the first to admit that “news” was something that often went un-updated for long periods of time in the past. Kris and I are going to try and change that! As much as a struggle as that will be as I think we’re both stronger film critics then we are film-news-recyclers! Ha Ha!
Jimm and Foxx are going to be assisting on that front as well. Jimm is currently on holiday and Foxx is snowed under with other commitments presently, but they’ll appear intermittently when something jumps up that they want to put their voice to.
On top of that, we’re going to try and bring some ‘different’ styles of content to the site. First and foremost, The Saturday Night 3-Way is going to test the waters in the world of the “podcast” in the future, not the next issue I don’t think (which is long overdue, I admit!) but most definitely the one after that. I took the time to email a few of you regulars (okay 3!) and pick your brains about it and your comments have suggested it would be a welcome addition, so we’re going to give that a go!
Also, what I’m looking to do is to open up StalePopcorn to you the reader and get you to feel comfortable that this is a site ran by people like YOU for YOU. Kris got her job here through guest contributions and that avenue is open once again. Guest contributions I mean, not necessarily jobs! Ha Ha! If you see a film, old or new, that you think could do with being championed or with having a warning label stuck to it, then throw a few words down and send a review to me at undiscovered_genius@hotmail.com with the subject header GUEST REVIEW SUBMISSION and it will appear up on the site!
Finally, you all know that I am not one for any sort of “editorial control” whatsoever and Wyv and I, past / present / hopefully future, have never had to wipe, edit or sanitise any sort of comment or talkback on the site but last night one of our articles got hit up with some pretty offensive comments in the talkback. They were deleted within minutes of appearing but, through the night, similar remarks were made with a more threatening slant. They were also removed but, after an email from a “key-worker” (their own description, not my own!) from the BBC complaining about the secondary comments which had been spotted prior to being deleted, I decided that it be more prudent to pull the article completely. It was massively out of date anyway in terms of information that had been revealed since its publication, and it was only very extraneously linked to all things “movies” anyway but my apologies go out to any of you who had taken the time to comment on that particular article! I’m referring to the editorial piece about the suspension of BBC personalities, Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross, by the way!
And that, I assure you, is all. The ship will carry on sailing in the direction originally set, how active a role you the reader play in being a part of the site is entirely up to you but the possibilities are endless, and our site “mantra” remains exactly the same: StalePopcorn is the natural home of the movie geek within!

On a slightly separate note – has anyone ever had a comment actually “screened” and “published” on Roger Ebert’s blog? I’ve left 3 in 3 days and none of them have been sanctioned as worthy of appearing on hs site, despite a) being utterly relevant to the essay it was referring to b) clean of bad language c) non-sychophantic and d) just as ‘good’ as others that did make the grade, but with less bum-licking on my part!
Oh.. wait, Points (c) and (d) have kind of answered my own question!

I watched Casino Royale again last night and man do I love that movie. I’m pumped to see (and review) Quantum of Solace next week.

I would turn down a free screening of Twilight. The only way I’m going to see that movie is if my sister guilt-trips me hard enough to make me go with her.
