2nd ASPEYA 2008 # 1: THE READER’S VOTE!
What a difference a year makes eh? This time last year for the first ever edition of The Annual State Popcorn End of Year Awards 2007 we had ONE single contribution from long-time supporter, James which made correlating the results extremely easy as you could well imagine. This year we’ve had more submissions then I honestly could have predicted, which has made correlating the results an absolute son of a bitch!
There’s a few interesting surprises in the categories below, I have to admit. A lot of you have clearly put some thought into your suggestions. Obviously, the obvious ‘cinematic turkeys’ of 2008 are well represented but there’s a few films you’ve mentioned where I was like “Woah – really? I know it didn’t connect with a lot of people but the WORST?”. There’s also some inclusions where I couldn’t quite believe that they resulted how they resulted but, when tallied up from what you voted, this is where the results lay! Bizarrely, we have situations where the actor considered the “fourth greatest” of the year is also the one the readers consider to be the “number one worst”. And films that appear in the year’s best list also appear in the year’s worst! Weird!
All in all, I just want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to send in your submissions and I hope that the eventual correlation of results is representative of what you suggested in your vote. Over the next year days you’ll get both mine and Kristina’s opinions on the same category in our ‘Best & Worst’ articles, and then we’ll finish up with our individual TOP 25 pieces AND a most amazing competition to celebrate!
Anyway, without further ado, here’s The Annual State Popcorn End of Year Awards 2008: Reader’s Vote as voted for by YOU:

The Spirit clutching most of the top “Worst” awards despite only opening a week before the closing date? The sudden appearance of Jon Avnet as Worst Director from out of nowhere?
Hmm…. Well, I’ll be back tomorrow with my own set of thoughts and Top 5 countdowns so… see you then!

Kristen Stewart was the best actress of the year?!
Allegedly
According to our readers
yey i nailed some of those
but apparantly some of you havent seen 10,000 b.c. and i am truly glad for you, really
SHAME on whoever put cate blanchett as worst actress!
im sorry this may be a dumb question…who is the elemental?
and i didnt see the happening…and now because of this list im happy i didnt
10,000 BC is pretty well represented on my list which goes live tomorrow Hazmat!
The Elemental Scene is referring to the set piece where Hellboy stands off against “the giant plant thing” whilst rescuing the baby!
ugh. you saw it? that movie is responsible for the most harsh movie review ever written by moi in the school paper
oh that scene! i voted for the nuada scene at the end…
and…David Koepp was the writer for indy 4?? i voted for george lucas as worst writter! was lucas not the writer for indt 4? DAMNIT!!!!! I ****ed UP!
Yeah, and you also voted for The Mummy 4 – which, erm, doesn’t exist.
Yet.
oh no it will never exist my friend, not after abominable snowmen
lol
well you know what i meant =]
oish
i just wikied it
george lucas did write it, along with that other gentleman
only one titanic mistake =D
but i am sure that if the mummy 4 DOES come out…it wont be good at all
its like you guys saw the same 15 movies all year.pathetic
So what would your choices have been “pimpirelu”? Or is that “pamparam”?
Anyway, if a movie is bad, more than one person is going to vote on it – same if a movie is good. Which means the more high profile releases of the year (movies like The Dark Knight, Twilight, Iron Man etc etc) which is why, on any “Best and Worst” list of a given year you are going to see a lot of similarities.
Wyv, I’m not even going to dignify this ****ing tool with an intelligent response.
People like this piss me right off – they sit off on the sidelines, don’t contribute to the vote itself and then bitch when the results are cast.
PATHETIC!!
